arrival of new 9ft tank

well all,
december is upon us,blink and it will be christmas,as usual
i am fully organised, got new pin numbers for my debit card, just
need to find my wallet, now when did i use it last!thats it,LAST
christmas, looks like i will be using the wifes again.
if you have been in the shop in the last couple of weeks, you
will see by the mess that the store revamp is in full swing, and to
make matters more interesting the 9 ft aquarium arrived today
and as usual the donkey work was left to the staff, never a
customer about when there is any lifting to do,so we are hoping
to have it up and running next week,
also of interest our new tropical shipment has arrived and should
be ready for sale on saturday,
thank you all for your support in these difficult times,
kind regards

at the mess then walked away laughing,[he clearly

received a thank you

hello all,
for the second time in our twelve year history,we have
received a thank you from a new customer who complimented
us on the quality of the conditions we keep our fish in,it is nice
to receive this from a complete stranger,we have in the past been
criticised for having one dirty tank,it does not matter that the other
150 are spotless, its a bit like the program the other night on the
holiday critics, they are happy to nit-pick but not compliment  on
the better aspects of any business, this is one of the reasons the
koi industry is on its knees,to many critics who will always voice
there opinion, whilst the true hobbyists will never criticise the critic
despite them disagreeing with the remarks,
lets hope the worm turns this year and the true fish keepers unite
and bring the critics to task, because many of us now think we might
as well go Internet only and then you do not have to worry about
peoples remarks, that starts the death bells ringing on our hobby
because then where do we go to view our fish and ask our advice

expensive fish

hello all,
just pondering through some old chat sites
and thought i would respond to some of the
remarks left by fish keepers,as everyone in this
business knows, you will never please everyone
so the two negative remarks i have found i will
not respond to,however the biggest gripe you
seem to have[or some people have]is the cost of
Japanese fish, the actual cost of these has doubled
in the last few years and it is not down to the
breeders like ourselves they have no control over
the value of the pound,5yrs ago we where getting
220 to the pound, now we are getting 120 to the
pound, and as freight is paid in yen you can see
where the cost is.
one of the remarks from our survey is why don't
we do Israeli koi, like we used to,well the answer
is for next year we will bring some in,it is fair to say
when we used to bring them in they where very
nice fish for the money,so due to request we will
try and see if the demand is there, yes due to exch
values and shipping costs they will be a lot cheaper
but as we will not buy lower quality fish we cannot
say what the cost difference will be so watch this
space,
we are also bringing into play a limited amount of
pet supplies into the store[again due to results of the
survey]so if there is anything in particular you would
like please ask,
as winter is well and truly around the corner lets
see if next year we can bring some common sense
back into koi keeping, and lets buy fish because we
like them and not because the so called experts say
that is the style or pattern you should be buying,
hope to be a bit more regular with the blog from now
on but there again i never seem to have much time,
that freight train called life just seems to get faster and
faster, and i blink and 3 weeks has passed,
  regards to you all,

is that it

hi all,
it looks as if our summer is well and truly over,
with the first heavy frosts on us it can only get
colder, dare i say hopefully next year is better
mind didnt i say that last year, well lets hope the
winter is not as cold or long like the last one,we
like most of you in the northeast did not seem to
get our ponds past the upper 60s but the plus side
is our fish have seemed to put on a lot of body
weight so i suppose they are ready for the winter,
if you have not cleaned your filter systems out yet
it might be prudent to do it know,it might be our
last chance before the weather gets to bad,and if
you have covers best get them on now,we are
about to give the shop a facelift so if you do call in
and see the organised chaos please be patient,it
will be worth it,we need to create more space and
i do not want to reduce the number of koi ponds we
have,so need to utilise the space more effectivly,
good luck and look forward to seeing you all
through the winter for a chat,
kind regards

oh dear the pro has spoken

well well well!the pro has spoken once again
and pointed the finger at the wrong person again,
I no longer need the tablets because i get the
injection every six months and i get at least three
reminders before my doctor collars me in the shop
so i cant forget the injection,so my memory is like
it was ten yrs ago,and the wobbly hand shaking
had nothing to do with me they belonged to the
son who is half my age so its about time he got his
facts right,i would have wrote this blog sooner but
when i went to the trade show i left my laptop at
home so this was the earliest i could respond
and while i am on, up to now the results for the
poll are no 1 is pet supplies and no 2 is marines
but trailing in the distance is reptiles,so please keep
 the feedback coming,

These old folk

O dear it really is a tell tale sign of old age when you start to moan and point the finger at other people for your own mistakes not to mention the terrible hand control of the video footage which looked like it had been shot during an earthquake. It's ok paul i will bring your medicine round later.

that web developer again

hello again,
as most of you already know how i abound with
technical know how,and there are few people that can
keep up with my fantastic computer abilities i was surprised
to find that neil[our technical expert ]once again cannot keep
up with the pace of our website progress.
he has for some time asked us to forward some videos of
our fish to him,so at a great deal of my valuable time,i put
the videos on a memory stick for him and got the son to
drop it off at the house for him,as this is much quicker than
emailing them over to him and i felt that the 4500 emails
would take him some time to sift through,i then get an email
saying that the file numbers did not match the files i put on the
memory stick,so i sent him a copy of the encyclopedia of
tropical fish over making it clear that the 2500 page book
covered all the fish varieties we sent to him and he could
easily identify all the types and can put them on u tube and
facebook, that should stop him putting obstickles in the way
again,

new tropical fish and aquatic turtle shipment

hello all,
just to let you know our next tropical fish arrivals are on wed, this includes our first shipment of aquatic turtles because of the number of people requesting them, the results of our instore survey have just been completed for the first week and here are the results,
no of returned forms 45
no of votes for marines 23
no of votes for reptiles 11
no of votes for pet supplies 45
so up to now the vote seems to be for pet dry goods,we will run this survey for 4 weeks and will take action on the winning votes in the store upgrade which we hope to start in october and hopefully be completed in time for the new year,

hi all,
just to let you know the instore survey was started today and the feedback is very good, with most customers taking the time to give us the feedback we require, this will help us with the long overdue store revamp which we will be starting very shortly,we will update the responses we receive on a weekly basis

yell.com fails to deliver

We have just found out the yell.com phone no for the shop has been out of commision for a number of weeks, thank you to the customers who made us aware of this. We have contacted yell and the problem put right, needless to say we will not use there phone count service again. We had noticed we had a substantial drop in phone calls but put this down to our beautiful summer which once again has delivered us plenty of water as usual all we can do is appologise to those of you who could not get in touch and assure you it will not happen again.

Before i sign off we are open bank holiday monday.

north east koi club show

Hello all,
due to my organising skills, once again i forgot to pencil in the koi show at the federation brewery over
the weekend,we usually get a couple of people in the shop who have just returned from it,but this year for
some reason we did not get it,so was wondering how it went, anybody reading this been over the weekend
would like to hear about it,i know it will appear on there web site but it usually takes a bit of time and can be
a little sparse on info,so any info please
regards paul

true value aquatics

hello all,
we have often said, that if you buy your products from the man in the garage then you only have yourself to
blame when the retail industry that gives you the ability to look and compare with your own hands and eyes
does not exist anymore,we at teesside koi have dispite the economic times tried to ensure that you the customer has still got probably the largest selection of koi and tropical fish plus one of the largest dry goods
selections in the north east,
however we had a customer in the shop yesterday who was looking for an aquatics outlet on the estate,as we have recieved returns in the past for them it was easy to take the customer to the front door and point him in the direction of the post office, yes you guessed it the post code he was given was their post office box no which just happens to be on the trading est in which our unit is located,if you go on there site and look in there terms and conditions you will see there official address is a house in billingham,we have always took a neutral attitude to other businesses that trade this way but the customer had  claimed he had been told by them we had burned down and where no longer trading,
he was very surprised to find not only are we fit and well but stacked from floor to ceiling with stock,as we tell all our customers as long as you use us we will look after you and 99% of our customers are happy with our service, and we have no reason to change the way we are, after nearly 8 yrs on this est the only thing we need to ask is shall we expand into reptile and pet supplies as we have 3000 sq ft above our heads that isnt
being used,[your thoughts please]

25% off koi sale 2011

Hello all,
I dont know about you but we are all now sick of this years weather,so to brighten things up we have
decided to start our sale early, this will hopefully clear a number of our ponds ready for a  full store revamp
which will take place over the winter months,
we have long since realised that some of our units are not the best viewing areas for our customers and do the koi no justice, that coupled with them looking a bit weathered we have decided to revamp fully for the 2012 season [note we did not use the word summer there]lol,
so be quick we still have some nice tosia and nissia with good potential to grow on at bargain prices which are unikely to be bettered for the quality and price with 25% off all koi

what goes in must come out

hi all,
we all get mental blocks sometimes, but it is astounding how many people come to us ranting and raving that the good filter we sold them keeps overflowing,we don't seem to be able to tell them enough
that if you reduce the 2 2" outlets on the economy boxes to a single 11/2" flexi outlet the box will overflow unless you govern the pump down, time and time again we explain this to them, but they always
come back and claim that nobody explained that to them,do we have to start giving a 40 page book to
every customer about what you can and cannot achieve with there water flows, what do you think, answers please,

the cheek of it all

hi all,
thought i would share this conversation with you,I was talking to a customer the other day and he explained that although he had been keeping fish for about 2 yrs ,he had decided to buy some koi off ebay and he knew the risks of buying from unknown sources so he was wondering if we would quaranteen these fish for him for a couple of weeks just to be on the safe side as he did not want to set a quaranteen system up and he knew we had ten units which we where going to mothball for a couple of months and it would help us keep our filters going,[no mention of contributing to the running cost because he was doing us a favour].
I cannot print my reply here but i dont think this customer will be coming back in a hurry, and the funny part is non of the staff have ever sold him anything although he has been in to look at the koi on a couple of occasions over the last couple of weeks, what do you think the answer should have been,

one born every day

We had a customer came in the shop the other day,and wanted to exchange an aquamax pump that was not big enough for the job for the larger model. When we politely refused he became very irate, he hadn't even bought the pump from us he had purchased it elsewhere online.

He thought because we are an authorised oasa stockist and to save him some money not having to returning the pump back to its original point of purchase we should be able to exchange this for hum.

I will try this next time with my cornflakes i bought from asda, when i take them back to sainsbury's because they are closer, what do you think?

koi clubs

Hello all,
Time flies doesn't it,i know sooner think i am doing well with the blogs then i realise 2 weeks have passed and i have not posted anything, we have a number of people been asking about koi clubs in the area as the nearest one is the newcastle one so would be interested to know if there is enough interest in resurecting the old teesside koi club.
Julian used to run the original club and had a massive following sadly it veered from the track and people lost interest in it,but maybe now is the time to restart it. Our hobby is going through massive changes at the moment and now more than ever we need to support each other anyway we can. Please email us your thoughts and we will answer every one we receive so please get them sent in i am sure we will find people interested

beached whale

hi all,
just thought i would share this conversation i had with my daughter with you,
we where stood in the shop the other day and my daughter said she had taken the
grandchildren down to redcar to show them the whale,i said to her why on earth
do you want to show the kids a dead beached whale, her reply without thinking was
its not a beached whale its a sperm whale, she still does not know why everybody was
rolling about on the floor laughing,we did not have the heart to tell her,

english weather

hello all,
what can i say what happened to our weather,2 weeks ago we where in the middle of summer and
know we seem to be back in winter, spent the day in the shop with my coat on, at least the new hand selected are doing well and the nose rubs on the ochibas and chagois are healing without any help from us so hopefully they will be ready to go as soon as they are out of quaranteen, with some of them already sold we may run out of fish this year because the last shipment is in 2 weeks time so the dillema starts do we buy more or don't we,i think we will just suck this one and see who knows what is going to happen to our weather,

never trust a tom tom

Evening All,
Just a quick one to let you all know that the hand selected koi are now in store.. Apart from a couple of nose rubs on some of the fish they are all fine so we hope to have them priced in a couple of days.

Dropped some hand selected off for some other dealers on the way back and unfortunatly i got a little lost so they had to wait a little longer than expected, just thought it was prudent to let them get away sharpish so didn't stop and chat, sorry lads it won't happen again. My tom tom needs updating as i found myself on the wrong road a couple of times, annoying when people are waiting for you needless to say the upgrade is now getting done.

web site update

hi guys [and girls] just been looking at our web site, and the home page has changed again,
neil is certainly trying to confuse me,customers come into the shop and talk about the home
page and all they get from me is a blank look, mind you that is normal for me if i havent got
my glasses on,its an age thing,as anyone who has reached 21 as many times as i have will
know, its a case of glasses on /glasses off.veryfrustrating when you have always had good
eye site, i have to say although the site is still not as good as mine was,it is looking pretty good,
and as neil has plenty of ideas for the site we should see plenty of changes yet to come,as you
will have noticed we are starting to put the koi back on the site,so once again thank you for

web designer required

hello all,
i thought our web designer could not stoop any lower, first he says i send threatening texts to him,
as you all know this is a lie because i don't know how to send a text, and then he sends people into the store
claiming his site is 100% better than the old one,we all know true koi keepers prefer vibrant colours and
clean lines so i don't understand why he thinks he is doing a good job,i sent a few friends round to have a chat, but apparently he was last seen climbing over the back fence and running across the field, has he not heard about cars they gaurantee you don't get out of breath, lol
anyway when he gets cold and hungry i think he will turn up but in the mean time just to let you know our first
batch of tosia are now on sale, but unfortunatly we have only recieved the 55 watt evolution aqua uv's we hope to get the rest next week, but can say the quality is excellent just like all there products, and before i sign
off just to let you know our buyer is in japan on saturday and we hope to have some hand selected koi in 2 wks time,so if you are looking for anything please let us know asap,

These old folk

I feel it's only fair to share with you Paul's frustration with me. Paul is very upset that i changed his website in particular his very unique choice of vibrant colors. Paul still hasnt forgiven me for changing this and so I have been doing a little extra work in between sorting out the ecommerce side of his site, answering his nagging emails and abusive text messages (lol just kidding) I have decided to create some art work what could have been (took 1min and 47 seconds of my precious time) and I really hope he appreciates the effort i put into this.

I fully understand why paul chose these colors and now relise he was simply forward planning. It works well with the company van, if it was to be parked outside a typical pub you would never see the vomit or urine stains on it left by the local yobs and you certainly wouldnt loose it now would ya. The color is its own tracking device.

Anyway...... On a more serious note, to give you all an update we are currently working on the discount codes so those of you who received a news letter from us just recently we haven't forgotten and you should have these within the next day or 2 thats if paul doesnt blind me with his van :)

as you can see the site ecommerce store is up and running,we are working flat out to get all our products onto the store but with nearly 1800 product lines and increasing daily we will be taking a little
time to do it,and as neil has to try and play catchup {he is doing his best but these young ones just can't keep up] lol we have to give him a chance,we are currently trying to put some of the evolution aqua gear on and are pleased to say that we should be receiving the new evolution aqua uv range on thursday 21st,we are trying to carry the full evolution range instore this includes spare parts,we have yet to find somewhere to put them but will cross that bridge when we come to it,please note that we are open over easter and our japanese tosia wil be available in store good friday for purchase, having finished there quaranteen at our off site facility, thank you for being patient, regards paul

ecommerce site goes live

Teesside Koi And Aquatics are pleased to announce the opening of their online store which will take place on Sunday 17th April.  For all people who registered with our mailing list before 15th April 2011 we thank you and to show our thanks we will be emailing you a 10% discount code within the next few days.

If you cant find a product in our online store then please contact us and ask. Due to our huge range of products we are still in the process of uploading them to our store so chances are we may have it in stock, if this is the case we will make it available online asap.

We appreciate that it has taken longer than expected to make the online store active but due to circumstances beyond our control coupled with computers which have not been up to the job we admit we have fallen a little behind our schedule.

This is just the start and we will continue to improve the online store over time. We have lots of ideas on ways to improve the online store and this will happen in time but we still welcome your feedback.
A big thank you for your patience.

Online Store Update

Seen as paul is doing pretty well with the blog considering how computer illiterate he is (well that is according to paul) i feel its only fair that I give you an update on the progress of the online store.

The online store is nearly there its about 2 weeks behind schedule due to circumstances outside our control. Just ask Paul (if you dare) the story about merchant accounts, payment gateways and retail software.

I for one have learnt alot from this and am more than ever a firm believer of 'You get what you pay for' i say no more but paul knows what i mean lol.

Anyway... we are where we are and the focus is now purely back on the online store which i think could be ready within 2 weeks. I will upload a picture or two on how the online store is looking a little later so watch this space.

more delays

hi all,
just been replacing a couple of liners in the shop,so have not had any spare time to write,so this will be a short one, just to let customers know what is going on in japan, our friends in the nigatta areas of japan
have missed the effects of the recent tsunami and earthquake but are feeling
the ripple effect,in that some shipments are arriving about a week late,
our shipment which was due on the 23rd of march is now not arriving until the 30th march, this may cause a few problems with later shipments because
we only have 7 quaranteen units available at the moment, and we need to get all our stock in before it gets to warm in japan usually middle of may so we
will have to keep our fingers crossed and hope things improve for them quickly as they have had more than there fair share of bad luck from mother
nature,
regards paul

long time coming

It is 10-30pm  on Sunday 6/3/2011,I thought i had better start writing in this blog, well truthfully i am sick of the earache i have been getting from my new web designer Neil,he is proving to be a real taskmaster it was his idea to get the blog off the ground,as he said if we tell all you pond keepers as it is in the world of us dealers, you will all come rushing with check book in hand and offer us massive amounts for our business so we can sit by the pool in Florida and think theres one born every minute [mugs in English]

On a serious note if it was that easy we would all be in the business and i could be sat here watching telly and not worrying if i had enough space in our quarantine systems for the new koi coming in or do i have enough money for my vat quarter or can i get the ponds in the shop revamped so as not to hinder the start of the koi season.

Its not all koi and blanketweed as you thought, anyway i can talk for England but that is not what this blog is about,it is about improving our hobby and giving you an idea of how we work in the industry and how we deliver to our fellow koi keepers.

As we progress i will drop in a few bits of humour about our exploits both in England and japan, just to show you we are human after all but for now with the help of Neil i have managed to find this blog, so i had better publish it before it disappears again as it is now 00-50 am on monday 7th march.

regards to you all
Paul
